Traditional metal wired braces

They are made up of stainless steel and sometimes in combination with titanium. Traditional metal braces are most common. These braces have a metal bracket with elastic ties holding the wire.

  • Cons: Most noticeable.

Ceramic braces

Ceramic braces are almost the same size and shape as traditional metal braces, except that they have tooth-colored or clear brackets.

Pros:

  • Less noticeable than metal braces.
  • Teeth move faster than clear aligners.
  • Less harsh on the soft tissue.

Cons:

  • More expensive than metal braces.
  • Can stain if not maintained

Lingual Braces

A cosmetic alternative to traditional braces, as this type of braces, are bonded to the back surface of the teeth making them invisible when you smile or talk.

Pros:

  • Invisible from outside.

Cons:

  • Difficult to clean.
  • More expensive.
  • Not useful for severe cases.

Damon braces or self ligating braces

They are currently more popular because it provides gentle treatment to the soft tissue and requires fewer dental visits (once in 2 months). They produce faster results causing less friction, discomfort, and pressure on the teeth.

Clear aligners or invisible braces

Clear Aligners has been developed especially for treating teenagers & adults as teeth can be straightened without getting braces. They allow aligning your teeth without clasps, screws or brackets. It’s the most desirable as nobody gets to know that you are taking some treatment. It is also very convenient as you can wear and remove them as per you convenience. It is latest technology in orthodontics. We offer aligners of two companies Invisalign & K-line.

They don’t hurt but your teeth can be a little sensitive when you first get them & a little discomfort on your lips & cheek. If you feel real pain you can take the prescribed medicine. Am I too old for braces?

Nope! You’re never too old for braces. We do an initial assessment of the bone around your teeth with OPG X-ray to see if you are good candidate for braces. With Aesthetic options like lingual braces and Invisalign, nobody will get to know that you are taking any treatment for your teeth. Having a balanced bite is very important both functionally & aesthetically.

How long do I need to wear braces?

It depends on how severe is your malalignment & the type of treatment you choose, your age and how well you follow the instructions. In most cases, patients are in braces for 12 to 24 months where as minor corrections take upto 6 to 8 months.

How much do braces cost?

How often do I need to see the dentist when I have braces?

Depending on the type of treatment which ranges from once every month to once in 6 months for an adjustment and monitoring your progress.

How often should I brush my teeth while wearing braces?

You need to brush in the morning, at bedtime and after every meal with an orthodontic brush in case of braces. Also thorough rinsing is required after every meal to keep your teeth clean and free of food debris.
